1. Not Investment Advice
AlphaStocks is a stock screening and financial research tool. It is designed to help self-directed investors evaluate S&P 500 companies using quantitative models applied to publicly available data.
AlphaStocks is not a registered investment adviser, broker-dealer, or financial planner under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 or any state or federal securities law. We do not provide personalized investment advice, portfolio management, or financial planning services. No fiduciary relationship exists between AlphaStocks and any user of the Service.
Nothing on this website, in our emails, or in any other communication from AlphaStocks should be construed as a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any security. The information provided is for educational and research purposes only.
2. Algorithm-Generated Scores
All scores, ratings, labels (such as “Strong Buy,” “Buy,” “Hold,” “Neutral,” “Below Average,” and “Avoid”), fair value estimates, composite scores, and analytical outputs displayed on AlphaStocks are generated entirely by mathematical algorithms applied uniformly to publicly available financial data. They are not the opinions, judgments, or recommendations of human analysts.
These labels are category names assigned to numerical score ranges. A stock labeled “Strong Buy” simply means it scored 8.5 or higher on a 0–10 composite scale across our five investment models. It is not a directive to purchase that security. Our methodology page explains in detail how every score is calculated.
3. Past Performance
Past performance does not guarantee future results. This is true for all investments and all analytical methods, including ours.
The backtested results presented on AlphaStocks are hypothetical and were generated by applying our scoring formula retroactively to historical data. These results:
- Do not represent actual trading or actual investor returns
- Exclude transaction costs, brokerage fees, taxes, bid-ask spreads, and slippage
- Assume perfect execution at closing prices, which may not be achievable in practice
- Were constructed with the benefit of hindsight, even though our walk-forward methodology attempts to mitigate this
- May not reflect the impact of material economic or market events that could affect actual trading
There is no assurance that any strategy based on AlphaStocks scores will achieve results similar to the backtested figures shown. See our backtest results page for the complete methodology and limitations.
4. Data Accuracy
AlphaStocks sources financial data from SEC EDGAR (10-K and 10-Q filings via XBRL) and market price data from Alpaca Markets. While we make best-effort attempts to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all data:
- We do not guarantee that all data is accurate, complete, or up-to-date at all times
- SEC EDGAR filings may contain errors or restatements that are not immediately reflected in our data
- Market prices may be delayed by up to 15 minutes or more
- Data processing and scoring may experience temporary delays or interruptions
- Calculated metrics (fair value, composite scores) are mathematical outputs that depend on the accuracy of their input data
Users should independently verify any data before making investment decisions. For the most current financial information, refer directly to the company's SEC filings and your broker's market data feed.
5. Individual Responsibility
You are solely responsible for your own investment decisions. AlphaStocks is a research tool that provides data and algorithmically generated analysis. It does not know your financial situation, investment objectives, risk tolerance, tax status, or time horizon.
Before making any investment decision, you should:
- Consider whether the investment is appropriate for your personal financial situation
- Conduct your own independent research and due diligence
- Consult with a qualified, licensed financial adviser, tax professional, or other appropriate professional
- Understand that you may lose some or all of your invested capital
AlphaStocks shall not be held liable for any investment losses or damages arising from reliance on scores, ratings, fair value estimates, or any other output of the Service.

7. Risk Disclosure
All investments carry risk, including the risk of total loss of principal.
The value of securities can fluctuate significantly due to market conditions, economic events, company-specific developments, interest rate changes, geopolitical events, and other factors. There is no guarantee that any investment will achieve its objectives or avoid losses.
Specific risks that investors should be aware of include, but are not limited to:
- Market risk: The overall stock market can decline, causing losses across all holdings
- Individual stock risk: Any single stock can lose a significant portion or all of its value
- Concentration risk: Investing in a small number of stocks based on screening results increases risk relative to a diversified portfolio
- Model risk: Quantitative models can fail, particularly during unprecedented market conditions
- Data risk: Errors in underlying data can lead to incorrect scores and potentially poor investment decisions
- Liquidity risk: Some securities may be difficult to sell at a fair price, especially during periods of market stress
